JAMM-IN TALES is one of the outcome of the JAMMIN Art Residency that took place in Galicia (May 2020). It consists in one video composition out of the 12 performances in 5 days.
Concept is stories & personalities boiling together in a safe environment that comes up in the stage: with a spirit, message with a flow, rhythm, frequency with beauty, aesthetic Arts…and no prerequisites.
“JAMM-IN Tales” consists in a common creation of a theatre play that is
- out of authenticity: real stories of the actual people on the stage. Most of them are people with sensitive life stories, all of them social activists.
- universal value: out of the personal made transferable, repeatable, adaptable, understandable, available for everyone (no limitation of age, cultural or language barrier)
- tool for debriefing. The purpose of the project is not to perform Art per se but to promote dialogue, interaction and understanding through Arts and thus Inclusion.
During the Art Residency in Galicia, the play was performed 11 times over 5 days in 8 different settings. Always with an immediate debriefing that happened to be very rich at every occasion. We called it “JAMM-IN inclusive tour”: 15 diverse youngsters met on Friday, explored theatre for 2 days on Saturday and Monday, so on Tuesday they were ready to jump into the stage with a common creation performance.
Friday
From “Who am I” initial sharing through comfort & discomfort physical exercises, into Human Rights Education. Once the group is completed the week plan is unveiled for all participants at once (inclusive tour agenda, week flow plan), a circle of self-care (under COVID measures) and learning environment is created.
Saturday
The theatre workshops were made in nature, according to the weather as a healing breath out after long days wearing masks.
Sunday
HRE and get to know local activists. Monday transfer into a stage: the local socio-culture centre, A Senra. Creation on the stage.
At this same stage we´d be coming back on Wednesday (a school session) and again on Saturday (final festival), A Senra. (Building founded by Bergondo migrants in the USA in the 1920s).
After 2 days of creative workshops in 5 days 15 youngsters performed a common creation play 11 times for 400 people in 8 different locations. Even though some voices say that during the debriefings there might have been more tears than people): tears of Empathy, Joy and Relief.
